busy busy

Eeek! Must... stop.... take.... breath...

This is the first night this week I get to come home straight after work - no meetings, sports, volunteer stuff, random events - sometimes I feel like I do a bit too much. But all of those extra things are the little bits that really make life interesting I think.

Tonight was not really an evening for relaxing though, at least not until dinner was cooked for one half of the family come to visit (lasagne, mmm). They exclaimed over my most recent and deeply satisfying ebay purchase, these genuine retro 50's Nally canisters:



They're going to look so cool on my cupboard - when it is finally finished. I was going to look for some as a treat (and motivating factor) for when I finally got it done, but couldn't resist this perfect set.

The family couldn't believe they are now sought after and collectable. "Aunty So-and-so had some of those... we ditched those for the new fangled Tupperware!" (which is now quite vintage and collectable as well I added) :)

taking it slowly

Autumn is here. The days are getting kind of chilly and very changeable. One minute it's perfectly sunny then the next time I look out the window it's pouring with rain. I'm not sure I'm ready to let go of summer but getting out in the brisk air reminds me of how good this time of year can be.

I've decided I need at least one day of staying put each weekend. Today the car sat idle (maybe sort of because of the aforementioned budget situation and lack of petrol) and I had a day of rejuvenation in my own neighbourhood. I did some reading, got washing done (in between rain showers), had two lovely visitors and got some fresh air in my lungs during a walk on the beach.

Life can be so busy and full. It's nice to be amongst my own things and take my own time about a day. I get a lot of pleasure from these simple things.

I am really tired. This has been a week where a whole lot seemed to happen. My nose is still dripping but the cold is on the way out, thankfully. Poor Stella had an unexpected visit to the vet with a case of droopy tail which turned out to be a nasty abcess thanks to a chomp from the nasty cat next door. I'm glad she's ok (though very grumpy at being confined inside) but the size of the bill kind of knocked me for six. Eek! Who needs groceries anyway?

I was happy to hear of the birth of baby Maya, and this little suit will be sent off to Torquay this week. Especially nice to have good news in this week of terrible sadness for one family that I know from school days.

After dithering around, trying to decide what I'm doing for Sockapaloooza, I have just thrown myself into it and decided to try a pair of Jaywalkers. Not sure how I am going for sizing or gauge, but I think I'll just get started and see how they look as they take shape. Still a while to go so no need to panic yet!!

uggh. sick.

The wedding was fab, with gorgeous weather, a beautiful bride, good company, old friends and just the right mix of dancing and pretty darn funny conversation.

The downside is that now I have been struck down with the dreaded lurgy, which was hovering around last week but then after a few days of chronic busyness, has morphed into this really gross cold. It's nice to be home from work but I have no energy to do anything.

The Samus cable gets picked up whenever I can manage one row of concentration - then I can safely do a couple of rows of non-tricky stuff - then have to put it down again.

I think Stella has the right idea - might do some of this myself today...
