ola amigos

(Now that was a pause of some time but I'm going to just pretend it didn't happen - I'm always apologising for something over here!)

Things have been so mad lately with work events and tasks, family celebrations and plans, time away and just the general and wonderful busyness of life.

I spose I should spill the beans and tell you the other thing making my life crazy right now is a trip to Brazil and Peru in not very many weeks time!

I have been really lucky to be selected on a team of Tasmanians visiting the state of Minas Gerais (NW of Rio de Janeiro) in Brazil on a vocational and cultural exchange for 5 weeks. We will be staying in the homes of Brazilians and being immersed in their culture and lifestyle, seeing the sights and learning all about their country. A major aim of the trip is to exchange experiences with people in vocations similar to our own, and come back with new enthusiasm and ideas for our work. My portuguese has a long way to go but things are starting to make a bit more sense!

The team I'm travelling with is a really diverse group and it has been a very interesting experience getting to know them and planning the time away. It does seem very strange to being going away to the other side of the world with people I hardly know but we have got along well so far and I think our shared experiences will bring us even closer together.

After the exchange I'm travelling with one fellow across the continent for a whirlwind tour of Peru. I can't believe I'm actually going - visiting Machu Picchu is a childhood dream. Did you know Paddington Bear comes from deepest darkest Peru?

So I go on 27th April and I'm back about the 18th June. Yikes! Leaving behind my lovely fella plus family and friends is going to be very tough. Talk about a once in a lifetime opportunity though......
